Book Description

Set at a crucial turning point in our racial history, Stopping for Green Lights is a moving exploration of the divisions that separate us. It is the late 1960s, and in the small university town of Brazil, Ohio, a young white girl embarks on a journey of political and sexual awakening the summer after Martin Luther King is assassinated. In the turbulent aftermath of King's murder, the world is a more pessimistic place, and Tish has succumbed to the disillusionment of the times in a way that forces her to question her family, her friends, and in particular, herself. Chafing against her parents and what she perceives as their romanticized white liberal notions of integration, Tish tries to take on the characteristics of her militant black girlfriends. Her desire to be one of them is so strong it's palpable, yet no matter how hard she tries, she encounters a wall. All of Tish's confusion and loneliness seem to disappear when she meets and falls in love with Goody, a black man of nineteen who arouses in Tish a new sense of herself. But it will take a heartbreaking betrayal to help Tish truly make sense of her world, in a way that no one else can do for her.

4.5 starsThanks to EUROBOOK and my winning this book, I was able to get an advanced look into Alyce Miller's newest book Stopping For Green Lights. Having been very much spooked by his Stopping For Green Lights, I was quite happy to once again enter the world of "spookdom" and read this story. Teenagers are quite impressionable. They often believe a lot of things and try to grab onto concepts and ideas that at times seems quite out of the norm. They often make ready partners, easily led, and make decisions that oftenti.

A short but w lovely book for fans of both authors, but also a lot of insight into freedom of speach, creativity and the importance of libraries. Some words to take to heart, some words to live by, some words to get (more) liberated in the pursuit of artistic endeavours. Definitely a good thing to read. You don't know it yet, but it's likely you need this book.

I'm pretty sure Alyce Miller books just exist to capture and devour your entire SOUL AND IMAGINATION. I just went on such a wild adventure omg, I feel actually drained. Like this duology has totally filled my creative well. I am heart eyes and my heart so so full and !!!! my emotions are just !!! which is exactly how a professionally reviewer would summarise a book.

I know a lot of us were expecting Stopping For Green Lights to be good, but I have to say, this book actually exceeded my expectations. I have a lump in my throat and I can't stop thinking about it. I usually spend time making detailed notes while reading a book but, at one point, I opened Notes on my computer just to type "oh fucking god, this is so good".
